About Me
About Me
My name is Darayus Sethna. I am a graduate student studying Sport Administration at Kent State University. My ultimate goal is to achieve a career in sports media, communications, or public relations. I am originally from Macedonia, Ohio -- a suburb of the Cleveland area.
I am a journalism graduate (summa cum laude) of Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College ('25). It was during these four years where I continually immersed myself in the world of sports media – primarily as a multimedia sports reporter at WOUB Public Media. I had the chance to publish feature stories of players and coaches with the Ohio Bobcats. I also worked as a sports anchor on the station’s nightly newscast, was part of a weekly sports podcast, and also did some photography for Bobcats sporting events high school football around southeast Ohio.
One of my first experiences was working at The Post, an independent newspaper in Athens. I was a beat reporter for the Bobcats field hockey team for the 2021 season. I also got to work in the sports department for WATH/WXTQ radio, where I contributed to a daily talk show and did color commentary for high school basketball. It was also during this time when I improved my play-by-play skills with Bobcat TV and ESPN+. I called multiple games for a variety of Ohio Bobcats teams -- including football, basketball, field hockey, softball, and soccer. I've also volunteered behind the camera in ESPN+’s sports broadcasts, where I ran cameras and graphics.

My first introduction to the sports media landscape came during my years at Nordonia High School. I hosted a podcast called The Cleveland Sports Show with NordoniaHills.News. This podcast focused on the latest stories around Cleveland sports as well as other notable sports news around the United States and across the globe. I recorded and published almost 120 episodes from May 2018 through August 2021. I also worked as a writer for NordoniaHills.News and was the play-by-play broadcaster for my school's boys varsity basketball team beginning in my sophomore year until I graduated. It ultimately led to my first-ever internship – at WAKR radio in Akron – where I was ultimately promoted to being an NBA Analyst.
I received the "Overall Outstanding Senior" Award at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism banquet (April 2025).
Career Highlights So Far:
At Ohio University, I worked as a writer for The Post. I also was a reporter at WOUB Public Media and a broadcaster with Bobcat TV / ESPN+.
During the 2019-2020 NBA season (prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic), I was a Cleveland Cavaliers analyst for Ray Horner on his radio station in Akron, 1590 WAKR.
This was an amazing opportunity for me to learn about the nightly functions of a professional sports broadcast. I had the chance to talk with commentators like John Michael, Austin Carr, Rafael Hernandez-Brito, and Mike Snyder.
As a student at Nordonia High School, I was the play-by-play broadcaster for the boys varsity basketball team. This was my first time having a chance to engage with the ins and outs of a sports broadcast.
During my time as host of The Cleveland Sports Show podcast, I learned about what it takes to prepare for a weekly show that relies on providing the latest information. It was a great experience in terms of understanding how to balance between using statistical information and engaging an audience with personal analyses.
